Medicaid and SCHIP Dentists and Dental Coverage

Medicaid and SCHIP (State Children's Health Insurance Program) provide dental care and coverage for low income children along with Medicaid coverage for adults on a optional basis.

There is an inadequate supply and limited participation of dentists in the Medicaid and SCHIP programs. These dentists are often times hard to find and there is limited information for them. Our list of dental clinics also provides a list of Medicaid dentists.

The supply of dentists especially pediatric dentist is completely inadequate for our population in the US. When you add in pediatric dentists that allow Medicaid, the numbers drop substantially.

In children, tooth decay is the most chronic illness. That is why children need access to SCHIP and medicaid pediatric dentists. In the US, one quarter of all children in the and half of low income children do receive their health coverage through the public coverage programs. Medicaid covers approximately 30 million poor and low income family children. SCHIP provides for an additional 6 million low income children.
